Teens are a stage of life where kids reach about 13 to 18 years of age. When they come home from school or get tired doing chores, they go for the refrigerator. They see what they can find to eat. They would look for a snack, and then they would eat it. Many teens tend to not eating healthy. They like to eat potato chips and especially microwavables.
They would microwave a few pizza pops or something similar. Is this healthy for them? Probably not. The reason why they eat these is because it tastes good. Instead of reaching for the jar of juice, they would go for the coke. Chug it down and then burp loudly. So is this healthy for them?
One way to get them to stop eating junk food is to stop buying it for them. That doesn’t mean they can’t eat junk food, it’s just they can’t eat it as a snack. Try something healthier, like an apple. You can also have some carrot sticks and celery sticks. If they make something healthy to eat themselves, they probably won’t do it.
Take out a tray and set it out. Instead of putting a few apples on it, cut it out in small pieces. Celery sticks should be cut small too. Spread it out one the tray, add a bit of carrots too. Make sure you have a dipping sauce to go with it. One that I can come up with is salad dressing where you can find anywhere.
Stock your refrigerator with lots of yogurt. They may eat one or two a day which is probably good enough. Once in a while they may eat a bit of the dry cereal you have.
When preparing for the healthy snacks, think of the food groups. Many snacks lie within fruits and vegetables. Cheese slabs are good for them to eat directly, so is yogurt. These are part of the milk and dairy. For wheat and whole grain, consider dry cereal with milk possibly. Meat is a really hard one to make a snack out of simply because meat has to be cooked. Purchase some individually wrapped beef jerky and stuff like that. It taste good and it makes a good snack too, but I doubt there is any nutrition in it.
After playing sports or doing homework these are some ideas to consider as a good, healthy snack to eat.
